ABOUT
Description:
Computers, gaming consoles, and even some Apple products are already becoming part of history, earning their place in museum exhibitions such as PEEK&POKE in Rijeka (the largest such museum in Eastern Europe). To promote its unique exhibition, it got us thinking: What if computers existed 130 years ago? And what would the history of computers look like if we reimagined it through the aesthetics of early historical photographs & silent films? So with the help of generative AI we created a fictional experience of time travel to an "alternate reality".
Idea:
Using a large 2-story exhibit as inspiration, we created a fictional "Computer History Almanac" that chronicles the technological events of 1890 in the style of a silent film video diary. The video series is based on actual exhibits and educational materials on display at the museum.
The project is created using advanced AI generative tools accurately mimicking archive documentary footage. News reports on “innovations” of the 1890s, as if computers and gaming existed 130 years ago, achieve the realistic style of retro images, old film glitches, sounds of kinescope and rolling film. In the process, such tools as Luma Dream Machine, Pika Labs, Runway, Midjourney, Kling AI have been used. Over 1500 images and scenes were created for the project. The videos got over 100K views on social and gained 2,5+ million total impressions.
