Kerry's work
About Kerry
I am writing to apply for the role of Midweight Designer (Temp to Perm) currently advertised at creativepool.co.uk.
I have been self employed since 2005, working on a freelance basis for a diverse range of clients such as WHSmith, English Heritage, QAA and the European Tourism Commission. Projects range from fashion stationery, point-of-sale and promotional material to audits and annual reports, and include some web publishing.
Prior to this, my main areas of expertise were briefly:
Three years' agency experience at Brann, creating artwork for clients such as The Salvation Army, RSPCA, Peugeot and Guinness, and assuming responsibility for typographical standards (); ten years in publishing design in print and electronic form, most recently at Nelson Thornes and sister company Wolters Kluwer Education Online in Cheltenham (); and two years as sole designer for The Natural World (), developing promotional graphics, packaging and in-store navigation.
Within this very successful business I developed packaging ranges for a variety of gift and lifestyle merchandise, including toiletries and aromatherapy products. I worked regularly with third-party brands such as The Natural History Museum and Middlesex University and proved that a good idea perfectly executed needn't compromise the budget. I was also instrumental in the planning of promotional campaigns and presented solutions at board level before progressing to print-ready artwork. I organised printing and distribution of navigational and promotional graphics to 35 stores, working closely with internal teams as well as external suppliers, securing print quotations from suppliers in the UK and the Far East and monitoring production schedules. Finally I provided guidance and support to third-party suppliers and owned sign-off on all contracted work, ensuring accurate representation of the brand across print and web-based communications.
As a result I developed excellent problem solving skills and a calm attitude under pressure. I manage schedules and budgets well and my portfolio is creatively strong and technically accurate. I have a thorough understanding of print processes and quality control, and am a confident and articulate communicator. Proficient in Quark Xpress and CS5, I also have knowledge of Flash and am comfortable on both Mac and PC platforms.
