The new Derwent (pencils) website showcases the new Derwent Academy Flip! range of pencils which are aimed at younger children. Part of the brief was to create some fun characters that would appeal to this target audience. So I sat down and began sketching out some ideas, at first I wasn’t having much luck, but after a few hours I was well on my way to creating the first character; a bright blue one-eyed cat. Over the next few days I explored ideas for the other characters, and refined the initial cat sketch as I went along. Here are the final characters as they appear in the Derwent Flip! website.

I created the website design, including responsive states as well as all of the illustrated assets. Also a series of kids colouring sheets and drawing tutorials that can be downloaded from the website.
