The World According To Billy is a book written by Joanna Hansler. It follows an autistic child, Billy. And shows how he sees and hears the world. 

My role was to create the interior illustrations and front cover.
The first and most important thing was to design each of the characters. Through the detailed description Jo provided me, the overall process was simple and straightforward with minimal revisions.

When it came to creating the actual full-page illustrations, I was more in charge of creating the overall composition. Often coming with a few sketches and taking Jo's feedback. Most images were completed within the first rounds but some needed more revisions.

With the front cover, Jo gave me details and descriptions of things she'd like; Fireworks and arrows ect. She also has a very clear idea of what Billy would be doing.
From this I explored different compositions and designs, adding my own elements to add texture and colour.

The title of the book hadn't been decided when the project began, so I helped in coming up with a name. And creating typography that felt suitable and fun for a children's book.
