Berlin Dispatch: Ciclope International Festival of Craft

Published by

For the last two years Berlin has been the home of CICLOPE Festival, the only international event fully dedicated to the craft of moving image. Since moving to the heart of Berlin’s über cool Mitte district in 2012, it has become THE place for directors, creatives, artists and producers to share knowledge and celebrate the latest happenings in digital, branding, apps, social and more.

This weekend, over 700 delegates arrived at the legendary Kino International theatre in East Berlin for the combined conference and awards show. Attendees were also invited to take part in Market, a networking activity which organised meetings for participants based on their areas of interest and expertise.

Virtual reality and immersive technologies were presented in The Next Room

The latest in virtual reality and immersive technologies were presented throughout the weekend in the Next Room curated exhibition. The interactive programme kicked off on Saturday with The Mill and Google ATAP’s Spotlight Story collaboration; Help, a live action film made uniquely for mobile. Meanwhile guests on Sunday were able see WeMakeVR demonstrate Tommy Hilfiger’s Runway of the Future live.

Speakers were on hand throughout the weekend to inspire through a series of talks and panel discussions. The legendary Tony Kaye - director of commercials for Guinness, Reebok, Nike and Volvo and winner of 26 D&AD Silver Pencils, 1 Black Pencil and 5 Cannes Gold Lions - spoke of bridging the gap between art and advertising, as well as his current projects. Meanwhile Dougal Wilson of Blink Productions - director of John Lewis' infamous Never Knowingly Undersold and Monty’s Christmas - discussed the capabilities of advertising transcending commercial purpose. Speaking about the stellar line-up, CICLOPE’s founder and director, Francisco Condorelli said: “It’s really exciting to have such great people joining us this year. The show is as we always wanted it to be.”
