ABOUT
Vanity Fur aims to sustain interest in the topics of anthropomorphism and the objectification of domestic animals. The book documents the world of pet showing at Crufts 2016 and cat shows across the United Kingdom, it also explores several domestic relations between humans and animals. I am interested in highlighting the projection of human qualities upon domestic animals and how this may effect how humans identify with animals. The book explores how pets are objectified as a form of commodity for human gain, in the form of awards and prestige. While remaining subversive, it also provides factual information about the controversy surrounding selective breeding. The book is a speculative project and doesn’t provide any absolute answers; it seeks to explore a narrative using voices of real people, to generate thought and discussion about this extensive subject.
