ABOUT

Squiggles and the Final Thread

Squiggles and the Final Thread is a children’s picture book about courage, kindness, faith and the stories that shape us.

Squiggles is a handmade patchwork teddy created from colourful threads sent from around the world — threads connected to triumphs, setbacks, perseverance and prayer. But one final thread is missing. Far across the sea, a young girl named Layla has promised to deliver it.

Her journey takes her through a frightening storm and into an unfamiliar city, where she finally discovers the little toy shop and the unfinished bear waiting inside. As Layla’s thread becomes the final stitch in Squiggles, she begins to understand that God had been with her throughout the journey — even when she felt frightened and alone.

The illustrations combine warm watercolour textures, fine ink detail and a handcrafted storybook aesthetic, with threads acting as a recurring visual motif throughout the book. Squiggles’ deliberately imperfect construction — uneven stitching, a slightly higher ear and a wonky leg — reinforces the idea that something does not need to be perfect to be deeply loved.

At its heart, the story explores the idea that every life carries a story, courage does not mean never being afraid, and love is often expressed through small acts of kindness. Squiggles himself becomes not a magical object, but a reminder to Layla of faith, perseverance and God’s presence through every part of her story.
