ABOUT

Sam and Pip is a children’s picture book about a boy who brings home a tiny fairground fish, only to discover that Pip has rather more growing to do than expected.

These illustrations are from the newly reworked edition of the story, combining my original characters, storytelling and illustration work with an AI-assisted enhancement process. I developed the final visual treatment to feel much more tactile and traditional: ink drawing, photographed natural textures, watercolour, broad visible brushwork and pencil marks, with an intentionally imperfect, hand-rendered finish.

The aim was to retain the warmth and personality of the original artwork while giving the book a richer, more expressive picture-book aesthetic. Story and illustrations originally by Jonathan Paterson; artwork enhanced with ChatGPT.
