ABOUT
We were asked to build a life-sized blue whale out of recyclable plastic waste as a one off piece of Experiential Marketing for Sky Oceans. It was to be a shock-and-awe educational job highlighting the plight of sea animals in our polluted seas. I was asked to design and Art Direct it. It turned out the best way to do that was to pick up the tools and actively help build it.
We built a plywood exoskeleton on a trailer, covered it in scaffold netting and applied an enormous volume of single-use plastic bottles and detritus.
The one day event morphed into a Nationwide and then European tour after a successful, celebrity endorsed London PR launch. The interest it in was so high we had to build a second (cleaner, more corporate version) to maximise exposure. The PR was enormous. Many column inches and plenty of TV (inc. Landscape Artist of the Year).
It was undoubtedly one of my most satisfying professional engagements.
