The Quirky Brits
Repositioning Britain for STA Travel’s Audience

The objective of this campaign was to reposition Britain in the eyes of STA Travel’s youthful, adventure-seeking audience by highlighting unique and ‘bragable’ British experiences. These unconventional and quirky elements were designed to spark interest, boost engagement, and ultimately drive travel sales to Britain.

The Concept:
Britain, as a multicultural postmodern society, blends its historical influences with contemporary culture. From its unique fashion, music, and way of thinking to its overall vibe, Britain has a character that can feel delightfully quirky and eccentric to an international audience.

To amplify this unique aspect, we highlighted some of the most unusual and charming British events, such as:

The World Pooh Sticks Championship.
Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill.
The World Bog Snorkelling Championships.
These events showcased Britain’s lighthearted and unconventional side, positioning it as a destination full of surprising and memorable experiences.

Execution:
Local market adaptation of the concept was critical for success. Campaign assets and messaging were tailored to resonate with specific international audiences, ensuring relevance and appeal while maintaining the overarching theme of British quirkiness.

Results:
Increased Travel Spend: Australians were reported to be staying longer and spending more in Britain compared to their international counterparts.
Engagement: The campaign successfully captured the imagination of STA Travel’s target audience, driving interest in Britain’s unique cultural offerings.
Brand Differentiation: The quirky angle helped Britain stand out as a destination, moving beyond the usual tourist clichés to focus on experiential, shareable moments that young travellers could “brag” about.
This campaign tapped into the charm of Britain’s eccentricity, turning it into a competitive advantage that resonated with the global youth market.
