ABOUT

The brief
Shieldpay are on a journey to disrupt the payments industry, and the brand needed to evolve with them – vibrant and memorable, but never at the expense of trust.

That's the tension at the centre of this project: Shieldpay is FCA regulated and handles client funds daily, so the brand has to read as an authority – confident, composed, safe – while still feeling more human than the sector's usual navy suits and stock photography. The system had to hold up everywhere the business shows up: website, Product, LinkedIn banner, KYC form, conference banner, product screen. One system, many surfaces.

Strategy: four pillars, one personality
Every later decision was filtered through four traits: Simple (every stage smooth, seamless, transparent), Composed (a safe pair of hands, even under complex requirements), Collaborative (people at the heart, partnership over transaction), and Visionary (leading the market, driving technology adoption). Together they answered the brief's real question – how "vibrant" and "trustworthy" could share one palette.

Identity: warmth built on top of restraint
The wordmark stays quiet – a clean lower-case lockup in light and dark, given generous clear space. The personality lives in colour instead. Circadian (gold through coral into blue) is the vibrant, energetic accent; Deep Breathe, a near-black navy gradient, is the brand's resting state – trust and "we've got this." Secondary colours (Rock, Leaf, Stars) and one reserved CTA purple mean a button colour is never in question.

The system's flourish is the hexture – a hexagon motif recurring across banners, forms and covers, borrowed from nature's own hexagonal structures (honeycomb, cell walls, insect wings): efficient shapes built from one repeating unit, much like the brand itself. Photography follows three lanes – neutral executive portraits, macro hextures in nature, and candid, slightly desaturated shots of real people in real moments.
