This role is for a hands-on UXD generalist to lead user experience design and implementation across customer and learner platforms, apps and services. Championing best practices and putting users’ needs at the centre, this role will design effortless, seamless products and services that are simple to use, deliver measurable value to customers and business and evolve with changing needs. This role will report into the Strategic Lead, Digital Transformation & Delivery. It’s a lead UX role requiring strong cross-team working and supplier management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide UX design leadership across a range of strategic initiatives to transform customer experience through user-centred design.
  • Develop our UI design pattern library in line with brand guidelines, and ensure seamless, consistent experiences across our products and services.
  • Develop high quality, cost-effective external partnerships for UX design services.
  • Conduct user research, testing and build testing knowledge base.
  • Focus design on platforms and services to achieve UX OKRs.
  • Use UX techniques (sketching, wireframing, rapid prototyping, user testing) to accelerate ideation.
  • Co-develop the design and delivery process with colleagues, with clear UX/UI deliverables.
  • Promote a common language, standards and set of best practices across UX design partnerships.
  • Ensure designs conform with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Define the information architecture for platforms and services.
  • Work collaboratively in agile, cross-functional delivery teams or squads while maintaining connections with Pearson’s global UX community.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across vocational qualifications in product, data, sales, marketing, customer service, and technology functions.

Skills & Experience:

  • Broad experience in delivering successful, high quality, web UI and mobile app user experiences.
  • Excellent design skills (e.g. stakeholder engagement and communication, wireframing and prototyping, testing, review and analysis) producing high quality deliverables across the design cycle.
  • Experienced in conducting own user research and using metrics, data insights and measurement frameworks to inform design.
  • Experience of establishing and promoting best practice in user-centred design, design thinking, responsive design and interaction design theory.
  • Familiarity with Google Ventures design sprints.
  • Experience of designing within WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Experience working in scrum/sprint-based or kanban software development teams.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of UX designers’ software tools for survey, content templating, wireframing and user testing.
  • Experienced in procurement and management of external design agencies.
  • Experienced in the use of UX design pattern libraries.
  • Experienced in heuristic evaluation techniques.
  • Experienced in defining information architecture.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Balanced enthusiasm for contemporary trends and innovations in user experience design.

Behaviours:

  • Make your mark: Performance-driven, focussed on the metrics that matter, with a bias for action. An organiser, seizing responsibility and delivering on the promise.
  • Ask why: Evidence-focussed, championing the use of data and insights to guide decisions and challenging assumptions.
  • Ask what if: a creative thinker, generating new ideas and open to those of others. Flexible, able to pivot, adapting to change.
  • Earn trust: Able to lead, inspire and influence others. A natural collaborator who brings teams together, sees the big picture and joins up across functions. A strong communicator with persuasive presentation skills, able to engage at any level in the company.
  • Deliver quality: Outside-in, always putting usability first with an eye for detail and pixel-perfect accuracy.
