Unit 2 Games is an award-winning, Meta-owned games studio based in Leamington Spa, UK. We were formed in 2017 to build Crayta - our dream to make game creation accessible to anyone and everyone.

Technical Animator - Rigging/Pipeline Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the animation team, to own and drive the development and optimization of the animation and rigging pipelines currently running in our projects.

  • Deliver production content to time and to specification, including robust, reusable, animator-friendly rigs and excellent skinning that gives natural deformation to meshes.

  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with all members of the animation and technical art teams, the wider team, the studio, and wider Meta organisation.

  • Communicate effectively and build bridges between disciplines.

  • Using your end to end understanding of animation pipelines to proactively work with a multidisciplinary team to specify and research, then prototype and develop, flexible and performant animation systems for the future.

  • Be curious about how user generated content (UGC) and avatars will appeal to wide audiences, learn new technologies and invest in improving your skills on your own to deliver solutions in this space.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Showreel and example files that demonstrate excellent model skinning, rig creation, and animation tools and pipeline development.

  • Practical experience and understanding of implementing real-time animation pipelines, and debugging and optimizing them.

  • Highly proficient in relevant software packages, e.g. Maya and Unreal 4.

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of what natural human movement and anatomy is so that all technical work is informed and guided by aiming for the most appealing visual results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing tools and interfaces in Maya utilizing Python.

  • Experience with facial animation and customization.

  • Familiarity with optimization of animation (e.g. UE4 Blueprint Fast Path evaluation).

  • Familiarity working with motion capture pipelines and equipment (e.g. Motionbuilder and Xsens).

  • Experience with runtime IK solutions.

  • Familiarity with animation dynamics, physics assets and ragdoll.

  • Experience in working with outsourcers / external contributors.
