Surfacing Artist

We are looking for talented Surfacing Artists to collaborate with our talented production team in creating high quality textures and shaders needed for various assets, ranging from environments, props and characters. You will be using your excellent artistic and technical skills to help create a rich and beautiful world come to life, whilst also providing optimisations and solutions for shaders used by the asset artists through to the lighting department.
Your day-to-day will focus on creating detailed, stylised assets based on informative concept designs, whilst meeting production deadlines and that all important brief from our Directors and Clients.
Day to Day:

Author both hand painted and procedural textures & shaders on stylised assets.

Effectively realising a 2D concept through to 3D, as well as being able to work independently, taking creative and technical initiative when required.

Working as part of a team with other surfacing artists, and regularly communicating between your Team Lead, Supervisors.

Coordinate with the modelling team and other departments to meet surfacing needs such as UVs and UV sets.

Discuss challenges and requirements with the lighting team to understand and address their needs with efficient solutions.

Ensuring shaders maintain their high quality under various lighting conditions and camera angles.

Expected to troubleshoot and optimise shaders.

Contribute to the surface library and use existing shaders.

May require further development on a shot to shot basis where needed to enhance the aesthetic.

Managing your assets and your time efficiently to meet those deadlines.

Responding positively to notes and feedback.
About You:
Must Have:
-
2+ years animation production experiences in TV/ Feature Film.
-
Knowledge of PBR and a technical understanding of shading, texturing, and look development.
-
Knowledge of lighting and rendering.
-
Keen eye for details and ability to interpret shaders for a stylised project.

Texturing assets using either Substance Painter, Substance Designer, MARI or Photoshop.

Advance knowledge of Maya and Hypershade.
-
Knowledge of UV mapping with either Maya or UVLayout.
-
Able to adapt and learn new workflows quickly.
-
Ability to be self-motivated while working within a team structure.
Bonus Points:
-
Experience in working with modelling tools both in Maya and Zbrush.
-
Experience with Redshift.
-
Experience with groom and procedural plugins like xGen and MASH.
-
Experience in lighting for production.
-
Have programming skills such as Python.

Strong time management skills.

A team player and great collaborator.

Creative problem solving.
