The purpose of the role is to oversee BBC Reel’s presence across all of its social media channels. We are looking for someone to develop and execute a successful social media strategy for BBC Reel, create outstanding digital content and to help us reach new audiences on social media platforms and on the site.

The role involves research, identifying trending editorial topics and trends in the wider social media landscape. Pitching and producing original BBC Reel content geared toward social audiences. Fostering genuine engagement between our audience and our content, while monitoring off-platforms conversations for new story ideas. Providing concrete insights and carrying out innovative new projects that will improve our content performance on and off platform.
 

Role Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement an outstanding social media strategy for BBC Reel with the goal of growing our audience on- and off-site.
  • Track success through engagement rates, growth statistics, readers responses and other metrics.
  • Develop and foster a distinctive voice for BBC Reel on social media.
  • Manage a fast-growing YouTube channel to optimise its performance and increase its following.
  • Create content, including production of social video that meet the BBC’s highest editorial standards.
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in creating successful social media content for media companies.
  • Solid knowledge of social media best practices, digital trends, entertainment and the social media/emerging technologies landscape.
  • Experience of managing a YouTube channel and growing subscribers.
  • Sound editorial judgement based upon a clear understanding of the BBC’s distinctive editorial guidelines.
  • Significant experience in filming and editing compelling social-first digital videos.
  • A strong talent in visual storytelling.
  • Fluent in using editing software such as FinalCutPro, and/or Adobe Premiere, as well as Photoshop to create visual assets.

The situation regarding the coronavirus outbreak is developing quickly and the BBC is keen to continue to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people across the BBC, while continuing to protect our services. To reduce the risk access to BBC buildings is limited to those essential to our broadcast output. From Wednesday 18th March until further notice all assessments and interviews will be conducted remotely.
