Following on from the recent successes of Planet Earth 2 and Seven Worlds, One Planet, the BBC Studios Natural History Unit is embarking on an exciting new landmark series for BBC One. We are looking for an enthusiastic Series Producer to lead this ambitious and ground-breaking project.
 

Role Responsibility:

The candidate needs to be highly creative and well organised. They should have excellent storytelling skills, visual flair and the ability to take an innovative and imaginative approach to deliver breath-taking content.

Alongside the Executive Producer and Production Manager, the Series Producer will be responsible for team building and attracting the best talent to work on the series – from camera crews to Producers and Production Coordinators, from Editors to Researchers. Having the skills to successfully lead and inspire a team is essential to the role.

Working collaboratively with the team, the Series Producer will be responsible for delivery the necessary editorial ambition. They will work closely with the Production Manager and Executive Producer on the delivery of the vision of the series on time and on budget. 

Overseeing health and safety on the series will be another major responsibility – filming will take place in some of the most challenging environments on the planet.

Alongside the Executive Producer and Production Manager, the Series Producer must manage a variety of critical relationships – including those with commissioners, co-production partners, and with the brands and marketing team.

Ultimately, the role includes oversight of every stage of the production including research and pre-production, location filming, editing, scripting, final post production and publicity.
 

The Ideal Candidate:

You will need clear evidence of ambitious natural history film-making and the skills and experience necessary to ensure you and the team deliver an innovative and original series with impact.

A strong knowledge of the BBC One and iPlayer audience needs and an understanding of global audience habits.

A good knowledge of contemporary issues faced by the natural world and how to turn those into topical and relevant television within this genre.

A superb track record of visual flair and strong emotional storytelling within sequences, through episodes and across landmark natural history series.

A key responsibility is being able to work with your team to identify the strongest stories and how best to tell them.

An excellent understanding of how to use new technology in a creative way to enhance storytelling and bring a signature look to the series.

Strong writing skills and experience leading producers through long, challenging edits.

A great collaborator with very good communication skills and the ability to build and lead creative teams over long projects.

Entrepreneurial flair and the ability to forge relationships with new partners.

An excellent track record in managing health and safety on complex projects in remote locations.

Be a great communicator and team player who can work well with Production Managers and Executive Producers, commissioners and co-producers.

A good understanding of production budgets and the ability to work closely with the Production Manager to strategically manage risk and sequence selection to maximise resources on screen.

The ability to think big and turn complex wildlife stories into compelling television.

A good understanding of the rapidly changing digital world and its relevance to landmark natural history series. 

The ability to work with other Series Producers and the BBC Natural History Unit leadership team.

Role is subject to greenlight. Interviews are expected to take place via Zoom w/b 1st February 2021.
