Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Graphic Design Manager including specific duties and nominated projects; and during their absence to ensure the efficient running of the studio
  • Responsible to plan and organise the design work in the studio on a daily basis in liaison with the Design Manager and against other service priorities
  • Responsible to take design briefs, project manage clients' requirements efficiently and effectively and present strong typography and design concepts to clients
  • Use the latest version of Adobe InDesign to produce creative designs and finished artwork to the client's brief with accuracy and attention to detail and appropriate application of the University's corporate identity
  • Produce high-quality graphic illustrations and icons using the latest version of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Responsible to manage the outsourced design to approved freelance designers and agencies
  • Maintain good communication across all teams in Print & Design Solutions; including attendance at the daily production meeting. Attend other business meetings in the absence of the Graphic Design Manager
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process of new staff in the design studio and assist with the annual review scheme (SRDS)
  • You will support the development of our digital portfolio, including HTML emails, motion graphics, Google ads, animated gifs, multimedia and interactive publications
  • Responsible to maintain and share knowledge of industry software and trends with the team and to undertake training when required
  • Responsible to use safe working practices to Health and Safety and Studio standards
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post
  • Attend strategic meetings and forums with management when invited, to proactively advise on PDS services and to help raise the esteem of the PDS service.
  • Work with the management team in the review and audit of the service when required
  • Be responsible to analyse and resolve problems, working to tight deadlines through effective prioritisation
