Overview of the role:
The Senior Copywriter works within the Copy and Editorial Team, reporting to the Global Copy Manager as part of Walgreens Boots Alliance Global Brands Marketing Services team. A hybrid role, based in the London South Bank office, with some travel to The Green House HQ, Isle of Wight required. The Senior Copywriter is the voice and brand gatekeeper for all things Liz Earle - creating honest, informative written communications to help reinforce Liz Earle’s status as one of the UK’s best-loved beauty brands, using a unified, expert tone of voice.

Working closely with many departments across the business, including the Social, Digital, PR, Legal and Brand teams, the Senior Copywriter is responsible for creating, editing and proofreading creative copy, while acting as a guardian of the Liz Earle magic and unique brand values.

About the role and key responsibilities:
The Senior Copywriter ensures the copy across all channels is on brand. These assets can include product and packaging copy, social assets, media, VM collateral, digital content, press literature, plus internal comms – and anything in between. The role will facilitate the timely delivery of copy across all channels through effective time and process management, working closely with teams across the business, including Brand and Channel Managers, CRM, VM, NPD, PR, Digital, Creative and on any projects requiring copy input.

Key responsibilities include owning and managing the TOV for creative campaigns and projects - presenting to key stakeholders and working closely with the brief owner and Creative Team to complete the brief to the highest standard and sign off any related work. This can also include but are not limited to digital campaigns, key promotions and new product launches.

The Senior Copywriter will support the Global Copy Manager whenever necessary – for example, across other No7 BC Global Brands projects when needed, not limited to Liz Earle. The Senior Copywriter will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Liz Earle Copy Team, including team development and progression plans.

The Senior Copywriter will also mentor and help develop more junior members of the team, supporting them on day-to-day tasks and editing their work to ensure attention to detail in all areas. For any new starters within the Marketing Team or London office, the Senior Copywriter will also lead inductions and ensure they have a full understanding of the Copy process.

  • Edit and proofread copy across the business, acting as brand guardian for brand tone of voice, ensuring excellence in execution and consistency of message in all channels.
  • Work with Technical and Legal teams to ensure all copy developed is approved and consistent with substantive claims.
  • Take responsibility of final sign-off of assets.
  • To manage, support, mentor and motivate the Copy and Editorial Team to produce best-in-class written communications.
  • Collaborative projects include: Printed newsletters and in-store/event assets; Social media/ blogs; Global creative campaigns; Visual merchandising; Digital content; Press literature; Internal communications.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of copy across all channels of the business through effective time and process management.
  • Share and critique competitor creative, including best-in-class copy, with wider team.
  • Commission and oversee the work of freelance contributors and contractors as necessary.
  • To build and maintain effective relationships across the business, advising on all aspects of copywriting and tone of voice to ensure consistency across all internal and external communications.
  • Work closely with teams across the business, including Brand and Channel Managers, CRM, VM, NPD, PR, Digital and Creative, on projects requiring copy input.
  • Review and feedback on the standard of copy briefs received.

About you:

  • Degree level education required (ideally in English language, journalism or similar).
  • 5+ years of copywriting experience required, ideally within the beauty, fashion or lifestyle industries.
  • Supportive management and mentoring experience.
  • Self-starter with proven ability to work on own initiative and to deadlines.
  • Excellent writing abilities across a range of online/offline channels.
  • Creative flair and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Excellent research skills and organisational abilities.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Coordinating and integrating the work of other individuals and departments is crucial to the role.
  • Specialist knowledge of writing across a broad spectrum of online/offline channels and communications.
  • Experience within the beauty industry is an advantage.
