Department Description

The Distribution and Platform Partnerships team leads and develops C4’s commercial relationships with content distribution and platform partners across the industry. This involves managing important, ongoing business activity - such as 4Distribution (our UK/Ireland secondary rights business) and core platform deals with Sky, Virgin and others.  Alongside exploring and implementing new partnerships; managing important relationships with global platforms; understanding developments in rights and technologies; and representing the ‘commercial’ face of C4 across these partners worldwide.

The team is part of Commercial & Business Development – the department which drives C4’s non-advertising revenue through the exploitation of C4’s rights, programmes and services; via the development of external partnerships across the media and tech sectors; and by the investment programme of the Commercial Growth Fund.

Job Purpose

This role is focused on driving revenue for 4 Distribution, our secondary rights business which makes content available on a B2B (sales to other channels and VOD platforms) and B2C (EST and DVD/Home Entertainment) basis, within the UK and Ireland.

The Sales & Marketing Manager will be delivering the strategy set by the Senior Manager, supporting the negotiation of deals, and managing all operational elements of the business. The role is also responsible for running marketing activities across both parts of the 4 Distribution business, on-platform EST promotions and trade marketing to B2B buyers.

It’s a role with variety and a crucial part of ensuring that the 4 Distribution business thrives and meets/exceeds its targets.

This position will form part of a job-share working 2 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday)

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operation of the B2C EST business – planning marketing and promotional campaigns and managing content selection

  • Working closely with colleagues in VOD Operations, ensuring programmes go live correctly and on time

  • Analysing performance and implementing strategies to drive revenue

  • Supporting the negotiation of larger B2B secondary deals and leading on the negotiation of mid-tier Secondary Sales deals

  • BAU liaison between C4 and our external partner (Sprit) in respect of the 4DVD label - from content offering and pricing decisions to operational support and approvals, with a view to maximising sales and managing producer interests

  • Implementation of B2B secondary sales deals – working with operational teams internally to service materials and being first ‘port of call’ for broadcaster queries – as well as supplying materials needed to support negotiations and potential sales leads

  • Managing the trade marketing plan for 4Distribution – including recommending media, developing ad copy and managing brochure/website production

  • Implementing and running processes that support the successful running of both B2B and B2C business, including content lists, sales trackers and more – seeking ways to innovate

  • Supporting the development of the 4Distribution strategy and contributing to ad hoc projects across the Distribution & Platform Partnerships function 

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experienced in linear/VOD programme sales and/or Home Entertainment/digital distribution

  • Experience of working with TV/film content

  • Experience of developing and running effective end-to-end processes

  • Experience of undertaking commercial analysis and implementing findings

  • Proven commercial acumen

  • Experience of reviewing and negotiating contracts and commercial deals

  • Experience in overseeing and implementing creative campaigns in the TV/film space

  • Skilled in IT: Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint

  • Proven ability to use and master new and unfamiliar systems

  • Experience and understanding of technical delivery of TV/film content in order to service distribution platforms (e.g. iTunes, Amazon, delivery to other broadcasters)

  • Demonstrable relationship-building skills with major digital/content/platform businesses
