Overview of job:
This is a really exciting time for LBC. We’re seeking a first-class journalist to lead our Westminster-based Political team and spearhead LBC’s General Election coverage.
You’ll have a track record of breaking agenda-setting stories that shape national debate and cut through with audiences across audio, video and online. You’ll also help shape the content strategy for LBC and be a figurehead for our team of politically-savvy journalists.

- Being the voice and face of LBC’s political coverage, helping to lead and shape our approach to the General election in a way that engages a mass audience and makes sense of the changing political landscape.

Measures of success:
In the first few months, you would have:
- Broken several high-impact, exclusive stories that set the political agenda and provide gripping content for LBC’s audiences.
- Helped secure and conduct news-making interviews to run across all of LBC’s platforms.
- Established a strong on and off-air rapport with LBC’s brilliant line-up of presenters and developed excellent working relationships with our news, production and digital teams.
Responsibilities of the role:
- You will lead our political coverage, bringing our coverage to life with your in-depth understanding of Westminster and the UK’s wider political landscape.
- As part of your role you'll be encouraged to provide exclusive stories, as well as assigning stories to the rest of the political team and supporting them in covering on the day stories.
- You’ll have an excellent contacts book and built positive relationships with many of the political figures shaping our listeners’ lives.
- You will need to role model and coach the team with the outstanding analysis and live storytelling speaking directly to our audience with confidence and authority. You will be driven to ensure you are at the heart of the stories, while thinking ahead to what is coming around the corner in UK Politics.
- You will also need to ensure you have a good understanding of our digital agenda too, as you work on enhancing the LBC brand.
What you will need:
The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:
- Bringing together a team of field based reporters and correspondent to deliver a strategy.
- Handling the challenge of providing live analysis and broadcast commentary, conducting major interviews and breaking stories that have a national and international impact.
- Building relationships that cement LBC’s reputation for holding power to account and taking audiences to the heart of the biggest issues and stories in imaginative ways.
- Developing outstanding contacts and establishing LBC as a destination for the stories that matter to audiences across the UK.
