Together with T&F, we at F1000, are currently looking to bring on a talented, self-motivated and conscientious Junior UI Designer to work in our busy Design Team focusing on UI and platform design for the F1000Research platform and its associated products. You will be primarily responsible for fulfilling design requests from, and working closely with, the platform development team as well as ongoing management of the newly created UI component library. While you will be line-managed by Front End Team Leader, work will be set, managed and overseen by the Senior Visual Designer.

This is a creative role, and as Junior UI Designer you will play a key part in the next stage of evolution of the F1000Research platform, helping define and maintain the look and feel. Though the primary scope of this role will be the ongoing work on the platform website and associated products, there will be occasions were your design skills will be required on marketing and communications projects, including social media campaigns, emails and infographics.

F1000 Research is an innovative open research publisher of scientific, scholarly, translational and clinical research across the physical and life sciences, engineering, medicine, humanities and the social sciences. The F1000 Research publishing system combines the ability to publish rapidly with functionality to ensure transparency, robustness and reproducibility of research. The publishing model combines the benefits of ‘pre-printing’ (providing rapid publication) with quality and transparency (open data and open peer review) and enables publication within days of submission, followed by open invited peer review.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working with the platform development team on design requests.
  • Designing and maintaining graphic user interface elements.
  • Creating UI mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Managing the Sketch UI component library and InVision DSM storybook.
  • Helping occasionally with creating and iterating marketing campaigns.
  • Ongoing input into the evolving F1000 brand and guidelines.
  • Inputting on UX workflows and processes.

What we’re looking for:

  • A creative designer with UI design experience.
  • A team player who works well with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical skills in Sketch, Sketch Libraries, Abstract and Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
  • Experience with InVision and Google’s Material UI frameworks would be an advantage.

What we offer in return:

  • 25 days annual leave.
  • 4 volunteering days annually.
  • Day off for your birthday.
  • Pension contributions.
  • Seasonal social and charitable events.
  • Training and development.

At Taylor & Francis we care about our colleagues, promoting work-life balance, wellbeing and flexible working. We believe that the skills and experience you bring to Taylor & Francis are invaluable. Additional Information:

  • You must have the right to work and live in the UK.
  • This role is based at our London office or may be remote.
