We are looking for a Head of Human Interface Design with mastery of their craft to help us create exceptional digital products. As design Leader, you’ll manage a small but agile design team consisting of UX and visual designers. You’ll be comfortable partnering with a multidisciplinary team including product managers, industrial designers, and software/hardware engineers.

You must be passionate about developing useful, practical and delightful human-centered products that solve both user and business needs. Your projects will range from designing apps for home networking products like Nokia WiFi, to in-development projects in the smart home and consumer electronics industries. 

The position will be hands on, meaning you won’t be shy about rolling up your sleeves and solving problems, but you are also comfortable delegating work appropriately to your team.

Your position will be based in our design studio in San Francisco's Mission District. You will work in a combined team of UI and industrial designers, giving you a chance to observe and participate in the hardware design process.

Key Qualifications:

* You possess a broad understanding of UX deliverables including experience maps, customer journeys, wireframes, screen mockups,and UI specifications.

* You have a highly refined aesthetic sense, including a strong appreciation for typography, color theory and layout. You love making things beautiful and are comfortable managing visual designers and may have a visual design background.

You have an understanding of brand, marketing and communications and are excited to define the art direction and guidelines for out product marketing teams.

* You have experience in building and shipping hardware and/or software products.

* You have a proven ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and are a strong, driven individual.

* You are comfortable managing multiple stakeholders with differing project requirements and can guide a project to a simple, elegant solution.

* You are skilled using modern design tools (Adobe CC Suite / Sketch / Figma / etc) and are a quick adopter of new tools.

* You have some experience in prototyping products (light programming knowledge / After Effects / Framer / Principal / etc).

* You have a strong understanding of design research. You gather and distill qualitative and quantitative data to understand users in order to improve our products.

Education & Experience:

* Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Media Arts or equivalent work experience

* Previous experience managing and mentoring junior designers

* An excellent portfolio showcasing user experience and/or visual design work for software and hardware products.
