We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Digital Content to join the Commercial team where you will be responsible for delivering a best of breed editorial experience across all digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and motivate a multi-disciplinary editorial and asset production team, providing leadership and creating an open, collaborative and high performing culture.
  • Lead the team to deliver and evolve the digital content strategy, applying tactical and strategic thinking to content plans to improve viewer discovery, grow usage and audience engagement with our catalogue.
  • Oversee the day-to-day scheduling of VoD content to all live platforms, both owned and operated (including UKTV Play) and third-party partners (including Sky, Virgin and BT).
  • Accountable for the editorial presentation of content across the portfolio of VoD properties; make the final editorial decision on how, where, and when to showcase programmes on the home / channel screens, and to balance long-form content with supporting content such as shorter video formats and podcasts.
  • Work closely with Acquisitions, Commissioning and BBC Studios teams to find new UKTV Play Exclusives to expand and deepen the content catalogue. Review new programmes for UKTV Play exclusives, assessing success and advising on targets, scheduling and release plans and reviewing ROI. Set up and manage a timetable of regular monthly programme box set drops to drive repeat visits and monthly active users.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, creative, social and communications to ensure alignment of content priorities and activities for UKTV Play, and that content is represented and promoted effectively.
  • Champion the use of performance data to support editorial decision-making for optimising the content presentation to the audience, including multi-variant testing of images and metadata, testing the timing of scheduling, promotion, or position of content of changes, and influence product improvements or new features.
  • Ensure all digital content meets a consistent style, tone, and quality, on brand, across all products and services.
  • Work closely with the Channel Directors to determine digital content opportunities on key shows: devise, draw up and execute compelling editorial plans to drive digital viewing and engagement from our linear viewers.
  • Work closely with Legal & Business Affairs to ensure content rights are managed and utilised properly and effectively.
  • Deliver against the digital business plan (including KPIs), managing costs and support growing revenues.
  • Improve the visibility of the UKTV Play brand internally, championing the service and audiences within the organisation and externally to viewers and the wider industry.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Prior experience in a similar role managing online content within a broadcaster, the video on demand supply chain or large digital media organisation, preferable cross-genre in relevant areas such as comedy, lifestyle, entertainment, music, factual and community.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a multi-disciplinary team and growing their skill.
  • Confidently balance and prioritise tactical and strategic decision-making.
  • Experience of using content or schedule management and social media management tools.
  • Passionate about your work, love getting to know the content inside out, always striving for better.

About UKTV:

Our Mission:

We¿re a different kind of broadcaster. One that¿s on a mission to become the UK¿s most successful non-PSB network. The place that fans turn to first for the genres they love. Admired in our industry as the feisty challenger. Powered by brilliant ideas not blockbuster budgets, we¿ll push ourselves to build even more engaging brands, to create and curate more imaginative programmes to form powerful partnerships and to use technology in ever more innovative ways. As the world of TV rapidly evolves so will we; by continuing to support our brilliant people to do their best work in a uniquely diverse, creative and inclusive culture. All the spirit of entertaining and growing the communities of fans who love our shows as much as we do.
