JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking for a footwear and bag designer to join our wonderful product team. This role will be following creative direction from the Design Director to design, source and develop footwear and bag ranges reflecting the brand, key trends and customer expectations. You will produce complete design packs and implement direct sourcing in collaboration with buying, from initial trend research through to confirmed samples and costings and on to pre-production samples. This role will report directly into the Design Director. We would consider applicants who are looking for a part time role.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design:

• To design exclusive footwear and bags with a high level of detail, quality and range attributes.

• To work in conjunction with the Design Director and buying to design an entire footwear and bag range in accordance with the agreed price point and option plan.

• Identify new key shapes and trends, and deliver commercial products that fit the Jigsaw brand portfolio’s handwriting.

• To work with buying and design teams to identify key brand trends and present: material, colour, theme, silhouette, and detail fit for the season.

• Adapt and improve your designs based on feedback from buying and management, and react to current trade across the business

• Create detailed sketches, technical drawings, and digital renderings of footwear designs, considering factors such as comfort, functionality, durability, and style. Ensure that designs meet the brand's quality standards and manufacturing feasibility.

• Contributing to mood and trend boards seasonally, including colour palettes, fabric & trim boards.

Sourcing:

• Provide adequate sourcing / materials propositions for all product ranges.

• Produce a detailed design pack to be sent to suppliers which includes: detailed sketch, trims, artwork and make and measurement information with enough accuracy to ensure 1st sample is to a high standard.

• To take responsibility for the range of 1st samples, liaising with the supplier to create first samples at workable prices and within specific deadlines.

• To review first samples with the Design Director and Buyer and jointly agreeing on the final range.

Range Building:

• To develop an awareness of what is / isn’t selling and to build this information into future plans.

• To review the previous seasons category build up and fix new percentages for the next season.

• To liaise with the Merchandiser and Buyer to ensure option plans are met.

• To assume responsibility for the range review meeting and 1st sample review identifying any gaps.

Competition / Stores:

• Develops an awareness of Brand competition providing updates as required.

• Presents key trends and product information to the appropriate teams.

• Undertakes research trips, buying suitable samples for use in range development.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working for a relevant fashion brand, ideally in the premium sector.

• Strong technical knowledge within Shoes & Bags is essential.

• Ability to create legible design sketches to be used for development purposes.

• Excellent organisation and time management skills while maintaining attention to detail.

• Ability to prioritise, manage multiple deadlines and cope with heavy workloads.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, who builds positive relationships both with internal and external contacts.
