The Executive Producer directly manages the VFX Producers, Digital Producers and VFX Supervisors assigned to the running of shows, overseeing the project strategy and progress. 

They are a senior MPC ambassador to our clients, representing the company in critical negotiations and acting as a point of escalation and key adviser in facilitating new projects. 

As well as these relationships, the E.P.s work extensively with the Senior Management teams and Exec group, as well as each other, to ensure the methods of show planning, resourcing and execution are conducive to facility operation and the business strategy, whilst inputting heavily on decisions pertaining to financial goals. 

The Executive Producers report to the Global Executive Producers.

  1. Show P&L:
  • DL target setting and Producer/Supervisor attainment.
  • Global labour splits.
  • Bid efficiency targets.
  • Change management and global net impact.

Primary responsibilities:

Client Accountability:

  • Alongside new business, provide consultation around planning, casting and bidding during award phase 
  • Host and front local new business meetings.
  • Formulate strategy, timeline, and budget for pitches, assuming key point of contact for all clients involved and assigning owners for safe execution of pitch.
  • Advise and diplomatically represent company interests regarding overall schedule shifts and delivery extensions ensuring any associated costs are made clear and communicated carefully.
  • Liaise on major changes in award scope and value, working with senior management to ensure any expansion is feasible before Producers agree to any additional work.
  • Communicate on assignment and reassignment of key players.
  • Offer reassurance and supporting information to Client VFX Producers outside of the everyday dialogue with the MPC Producer.
  • Regular contact with clients to ensure continuity and transparency of Producer reporting, and that services are as expected, triaging and following up any complaints.
  • Act as a layer of mediation for matters such as bids and progress reporting, providing additional information and clarity if required.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationship by facilitating timely and transparent reporting on the status of show delivery and providing clear recourse for any delays.
  • Senior MPC representative when dealing with Studio, Producers, Directors on all matters.

Financial Accountability:

  • Responsible for weekly monitoring of show P&Ls and forecasting any significant changes.
  • Works with Production Accountant to forecast site resource spend per quarter.
  • Tracks show DL spends and identifies any inaccurate crew planning.
  • Ensures producers are working to artists level split guidelines.
  • Producer/Supervisor team salary management and annual pay review.
  • Oversees show billing and works with Finance Director at Q close to ensure timely payments.
  • Works with producers on show bidding strategies.
  • Supports business stability by identifying opportunities for growth and looks to maximise profitability wherever possible.
  • Works with controller to accurately budget for IDL and provide adjustments to forecast.

Project Management Accountability:

  • Creates or signs off on project timeline document for newly awarded shows inc. TO schedule and initial quotas, to act as blueprint for detailed production schedule and full quota setting.
  • Scrutinises quota attainment and forecasting of resource needs based on current throughput.
  • Assesses viability of show schedules and quotas, offering guidance on strategy where required.
  • Acts as point of escalation for ‘amber’ and ‘red’ statuses, ensuring S.O.P. is followed, deferring to Production, Creative or Technology as needed for specific courses of action.
  • Review dept. efficiencies against quota attainment and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Advises and instructs VFX Producer on the correct and appropriate crewing in order to attain or improve attainment of quota.
  • Acts as point of escalation for resourcing issues where alternative scheduling has been exhausted, working with exec team to discuss and prescribe solutions.
  • Acts as point of escalation for production team where iterations from VFX Supervisors are impacting progress, setting clear parameters for Supervisor.
  • Consults with HoP regarding size and strength of production team, to ensure robust and appropriate support for VFX Producer.

Resource, Facility and Company Management:

  • Attends weekly resource meeting to monitor any recruitment/capacity concerns.
  • Works with HoS to mitigate and plan for seating constraints, following up any assigned actions with Producers regarding changes to show schedules.
  • Works with Producers to ensure accurate resource needs are forecasted, escalating potential resourcing constraints to GHoWP.
  • Works with HoS and HoC to arbitrate efficacious resourcing decisions.
  • Acts as point of escalation for critical resourcing conflicts between projects.
  • Provides level of approval for new shows hires if positions are on hold or ones are blocked.
  • Works with HoP and HoC to cast future show teams.
  • Represents needs of clients and producers to exec group, and acts to cascade down decisions made within group.
  • Oversees long term change management as pertains to direct reports, ensuring any amendments to job descriptions and S.O.P. are made visible and followed, working within timelines agreed within exec group.

People, Training and Mentorship:

  • Weekly 1:1 meetings with all Producers to cover all areas of show and individual performance.
  • Regular 1:1 meetings with all internal VFX Supervisors to set short and long term targets and coach on client and team management.
  • Provide constant, ‘on-the-job’ training, feedback and mentorship to all Producers, mentoring by demonstration as well as verbally when appropriate.

Qualifications:

Key Skills:

  • Client facing - It is essential to be confident, clear and calm with all clients, and possess an ability to ‘read the room’. The faculties to steer conversations to a constructive outcome, maintaining diplomacy and professionalism, whilst creating a pleasant, warm and productive working relationship are critical 
  • Communication skills - Ability to lead a team, manage diverse personalities and viewpoints; the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others is vital 
  • Scheduling - There should be a proven ability to schedule work of a complex nature, especially within the VFX space, with a thorough understanding of quota-based tracking and forecasting 
  • Adaptability - The will to shift gears mentally and deal with both ambiguity and fluidity, whilst supporting and leading others through the same is essential 
  • Finance - Understanding Profit and Loss, budgeting, analysing bids vs. actuals and spend vs. completion, and costing work relative to scope and within the competitive marketplace are skills which should be well attuned 
  • Commercial acumen - Strategic decision-making within the business as an influencer. Being able to understand company finances, resourcing and the ultimate aims of the business is important.
  • Role modelling - Demonstrate and lead on the values, initiatives and culture of an organisation and how to motivate large teams directly and indirectly.
  • Professional expertise - A strong working knowledge of the VFX industry, trends in consumption and market activity are looked for.
  • Coaching and mentoring - Whether local senior management, junior colleagues or middle management, you will be proficient in developing skills in your talent.
  • Organisational skills - Personal efficiency, time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands are key.
  • Trust - A trusted confidante on talent issues, unafraid of giving your opinions and expertise.
