Heliyon, a broad science journal published by Elsevier, seeks an Editorial Assistant to act as a Section Manager within our Editorial team in London (London Wall). Primary responsibilities involve management of scientific sections, providing exceptional customer support to our customers, developing the editorial team, and coordinating the flow of new and revised manuscripts from submission through publication, which requires frequent and consistent contact with scientific editors, authors, and editorial referees. The Editorial Assistant is not expected to have a scientific background, although scientific literacy is helpful.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities include: 

·         Ensure the smooth operation of sections within the journal through collaboration with the scientific editors.

·         Continuously develop the editorial team of the journal and sections, and ensure strong relationships with the scientific editors of Heliyon.

·         Manage high volume of internal and external e-mail correspondence, providing exceptional customer service to authors, reviewers, and staff.

·         Guide manuscripts through an online database from initial submission through editorial decision.

·         Check manuscripts for compliance with the journal’s standard during submission and before acceptance.

·         Monitor the peer review process with a goal of obtaining timely feedback from reviewers.

·         Perform detailed technical checks on accepted manuscripts to ensure compliance with publication guidelines.

Qualifications:

·         Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic, analytical, pays close attention to detail, has exceptional English language skills, and possesses polished written and oral communication skills with a strong focus on hospitality.

·         The successful candidate will be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, treat people professionally, and work equally well collaboratively or independently in a deadline-oriented environment.

·         Applicants should be technically savvy and must be PC proficient with expertise working in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Outlook and Excel).

·         A BA/BS degree, or equivalent amount of work experience, is preferred.
