As Sky grows, we’re seeking a talented leader to manage the Content Broadcast & Production Engineering team responsible for the design and support all broadcast production and transmission systems at Sky UK.

You will:
As a Director of Content Broadcast & Production Engineering, you will be responsible for three core functions across all television production and platform distribution systems:

Vision & Strategy – Be a thoughtful leader able to deliver vision and strategy for the long-term evolution of the broadcast engineering platforms and advise the Sky business divisions on how to plan their CAPEX investment to be innovative and transformational.

Systems Design – Be able to translate Sky’s business requirements into fresh and creative design solutions, workflows and architectures that can be taken as a reference for the industry in terms of reliability, flexibility and efficiency. Mange large CAPEX budgets and be resourceful in terms of driving cost efficiencies for our businesses.

Equipment support – Take responsibility for delivering a high quality, rapid response support to Sky Sports and Sky News and all other Sky services with all the equipment used to capture, edit, process and distribute content through our broadcast channels. Foster a proactive engineering mindset that aims at anticipating risk and failures.

In the execution of this role you will be assisted by a team of Programme and Project Managers, delivering and coordinating major portfolios of projects across Production and Distribution platforms.
 

Key objectives are:

– Provide clear vision and direction that the broadcast engineering team fully get behind and which aligns to overall company direction.
– Ensure that correct team structure and ownership is in place to meet budgets, timelines and quality KPIs in support of the overall business.
– Establish clear roadmaps and objectives, with measures, that demonstrate the engagement of teams and alignment to overall department objectives.
– Cooperate with Sky engineering teams in other geographies to drive long-term convergence in terms of selected equipment, platforms and solutions.
– Nurture and own effective vendor relationships with core partners & suppliers to ensure effective collaboration in delivering Sky’s core mission.

As part of the CT&I leadership team you will need to cooperate and manage stakeholders in other teams to achieve your goals that will demand strong personal skills, political awareness and personal credibility.

Leadership:
Track record of providing inspirational leadership to teams and demonstrated leadership qualities such as:
– Delegation and empowerment.
– Coaching for appropriate outcomes.
– International exposure and external reputation.
 

Technical:
Deep understanding of the latest trends in terms of broadcast platforms and systems to support the creation and transmission of live content. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of best practices for implementing world class solutions into highly demanding environments.
 

System Engineering:
Detailed experience in operating systems engineering functions maintaining services at 99.999% availability. Understanding requirements in terms of testing and systems reliability.
 

Vendors and Partners:
Experience is dealing with technology vendors and/or technology partners to drive requirements into future products. Proven experience in promoting best practices to drive equipment refreshment cycles.
 

Organisational Awareness:
Experience and knowledge of managing both internal stockholders and counterparts in interfacing organisations. Ability to think of approach beyond establishing traditional support arrangement boundaries for internal service management.
