Digital Design Lead - Virgin HolidaysThis job listing has expired
In a nutshell
We're looking for an experienced and motivated design leader to help build the digital product design practice at one of the UK's leading travel brands. Virgin Holidays is on a journey to embrace the best of modern product design and digital practice, and is currently expanding its design team to help lead that charge within the business.
Leading a team of four you'll be operating in a dual role: as a hands-on practitioner with deep experience and a persuasive, influential style, and as design leader who's excited at the idea of taking a function that's in its early days and growing it into a confident, respected team that does outstanding work.
Day to day
Lead and coach a talented team of five designers, you're responsible for keeping them together as a design community, building a consistent design direction and making sure each of your team members delivers it within their product team.
Work with the Head of Creative to help define exact ways of working and the overall vision for digital design and run regular design reviews and stakeholder workshops and play a key role in sprint reviews.
Be a true user champion, combining best practice, experience, and top-notch communication skills to help Virgin Holidays design and deliver thoughtful, frictionless experiences that meet our commercial goals and work within constraints.
You'll have the essentials of UX, including working with research, business requirements and cross-functional teams; creating user stories and scenarios; developing customer journey maps; wireframing and prototyping; conducting usability reviews; and identifying and prioritising pain points that affect the user experience.
Work with the Head of Creative and the wider creative team to play an influential role in brand identity, TOV, visual design and implementation of the brand narrative.
Work with the Head of Creative, Head of Technology and others to educate the wider business about the value of design, and to start to build a design culture within Virgin Holidays. That means being a champion of good design in the most persuasive, collaborative, constructive way possible spotting and taking every opportunity to design and build better.
You'll have deep experience of designing and delivering high-quality digital products, ideally in an agile environment. You may be in-house, agency or freelance but you will need leadership experience. A background in travel or hospitality is advantageous, but it's not essential. Ditto e-commerce.
You're a confident, influential communicator who can champion user-centricity and best practice, and educate others on the value of good design. In a commercially minded environment, you'll show great business sense and make solid commercial decisions, while still making the case for better processes and more user-centricity.
As a design practitioner, you'll have a rock-solid process, but be comfortable working flexibly. This is a fast-paced business, and you need to keep your cool and be adaptable.
As a leader, you'll be passionate above all. You believe design is about making things better, and you're a natural problem-solver. Ideally you'll have experience of building the design practice within a company, as well as coaching junior team members and helping to develop a more design-oriented culture. If you love design, know business, and are passionate about users, we'd love to hear from you.
Our pioneering spirit and passion keeps our brand vibrantly alive. That's why we give our people the rewards that they deserve. We have a whole host of benefits in place to help you enjoy life to the full, as well as a world of travel opportunities including up to seven flights a year to a wide range of fabulous Virgin Atlantic global destinations. Beyond a whole world of travel opportunities, we also offer a competitive benefits package including pension and private medical schemes, life assurance, child care vouchers and excellent discounts across the Virgin Group of companies.
