The team behind 2020’s acclaimed Dirt 5 are looking for someone with a passion for game design and particularly vehicle gameplay. Does the car feel great when drifting around the corners? How does the vehicle respond to damage? Are you feeling the right levels of responsiveness and feedback from the controller? These are just some of the variables that a car handling game designer is expected to consider and work on. If you think you have what it takes to become a successful technical designer with a focus on vehicle gameplay then please get in touch.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for motorsport and racing games, looking to apply their knowledge and expand upon this with the backing and support of a highly experienced team. The studio are looking ahead to the future and the next project so this is a perfect time to consider a move and be an integral part of the team from the very beginning.

You will be responsible for:

  • Gameplay balancing using editors, debug tools & direct modifications to the game code or assets.
  • Understanding the interplay between core gameplay systems such as vehicle behaviours, camera & controls and use such systems to create the desired gameplay experience.
  • Technical problem solving.
  • Collaboration and interaction with the team and other departments (e.g. Physics, Level Design).
  • Presenting latest work to members of the team and demonstrating progress to key stakeholders.

Some key skills & experience you will need:

  • In-depth knowledge and enthusiasm of the games industry and able to demonstrate this (project/portfolio examples).
  • Experience of using game engines (Unity/Unreal/CryEngine) and general game creation tools.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and not be afraid to present to a wider audience.

Personal Attributes we are looking for:

  • An ideal candidate will be highly driven and self-motivated.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Great teamwork skills.
  • A passion for games is a must and it would be great if you had an interest with cars, racing or sport but this is not necessarily essential.

In return we offer:

  • Flexible working hours designed to fit around your life.
  • Annual bonus structure.
  • Dedicated training time for self-improvement.
  • Newly refurbished, state-of-the-art studio.
  • Regular social events and games nights.
  • Large on-site free car park.
  • Free fruit and coffee.

If this sounds like you and you are interested in joining one of the best AAA developers in the world, then we would love to hear from you. We continue to assemble a diverse and passionate team that is inclusive of gender, age, race and all walks of life. We’re interested to know how you can make us even better.
