Design Director for Red Bee
Reporting into the Head of Design you will have responsibility for leading branding projects, managing teams on design projects, and proactively handling ongoing client relationships.
We will expect the Design Director to have clear and creative brand insight, demonstrating the strategic ability to analyse existing brands and the ability to work with account teams and planners on turning brand positionings into coherent and engaging cross platform brand identities, promotional campaigns or digital interfaces.
We expect you to possess:
- An aptitude for developing and reacting to changing client needs and the technical skills to deliver projects using internal and external resources.
- An understanding of all the technical programmes needed to deliver them: Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Cinema 4D etc.
- The ability to demonstrate world class idea generation.
You will be given additional departmental responsibilities. These could include recruitment, mentoring and/or line management of junior designers, assistance with external PR and advising the production and support staff on technical upgrades etc.
You will need to demonstrate strong project management skills and ensure that the projects you are the lead creative on, follow budgets and time lines as agreed with Producers and/or Account Management.
Lead creative and design projects from initial concept through to completion.
Develop and present inspiring pitches.
Work collaboratively with both the planning and creative team to create, shape and evolve brands.
Mentor the wider team to ensure everyone is performing to their full potential.
Set a vision and drive concepts and strategies throughout the team
Reporting Lines and Key Relationships
The Design Director reports to the Head of Design. You will also work closely with people in all areas of the agency but particularly with the Production and Design teams.
To lead by example - nurturing and developing more junior designers.
Have the vision to direct the overall look and feel of a branding project and to execute it with exceptional design across multiple platforms.
Devise and shape complex inter-brand relationships from a design perspective, including brand hierarchies, and sub brand relationships.
To work on elements of a design project either independently or within a team according to an agreed design brief.
To research and prepare material in support of own design ideas and create working drawings, storyboards and layouts to evaluate and present these when necessary.
Flourish in a climate of creativity and innovation.
Lead or participate in brainstorming sessions.
Collaborate with the other designers, the technical team, copywriters, creative leads, and account managers/producers.
Foster innovative thinking, relationships, and teamwork.
Think laterally as well as visually.
Develop proactive ideas for clients and Red Bee Creative.
At least five years design experience. Multi-platform experience highly desirable. Broadcast brand experience is desirable but not essential.
Excellent visual design and conceptual skills.
Advanced skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects.
In depth understanding of technical considerations.
Excellent typographical skills.
Strong people management, including team leadership, and organisational skills.
Strong communication skills.
Confident in presenting inspiring creative pitches with clarity and enthusiasm
Positive attitude towards learning and collaboration.
Passionate about the work but able to take constructive criticism.
