We have an opportunity for an experienced Data Professional or Product Owner to join one of the fastest-growing parts of Admiral Group.

Our Data Vision and the Team's Purpose:

At Admiral Financial Services (AFSL), we believe that understanding and engaging with our customers is central to everything we do. The way we gather, analyse and understand our customer data will be critical to the launch and success of our propositions. We believe that the right way to scale our business is to intelligently automate so that our amazing colleagues can focus on the value-add interactions with our customers and other stakeholders.

All of this relies on us having a great set of data capabilities across technology, people, and processes which we on an exciting journey to evolve through significant investment.

The Data Product Squad is a new team being established to continuously modernise the data platform so that end-users have all the latest and greatest tools to have access to data that they can trust.

The Data Product Owner will be responsible for working with data consumers across the business to drive requirements for the squad. They will then work with the Engineers and Squad to use these requirements to shape the ever-improving Cloud-based technology platform.  We do not see implementing data as a project, we see it as a critical component of our capability that needs to continue to evolve with the business, technology, data, and people.  It is the Product Owners role to make sure we have the right focus.

The Role's Objectives:

Data strategy You will understand our strategic plans (data, business, and product-level) and ensure that these strategic plans form a critical component of our data strategy.

Shape technology and ways of working You will be responsible for determining what our Data Platform will be capable of and the tools that we use.  We'll also be looking for you to play a role in embedding new ways of working such as Agile.

Tool creation and deployment Working with data stakeholders (e.g. Data Scientists, Analysts, Data Protection Officers, etc.), you will understand their needs and translate these into requirements and deliverables for the Data Product Squad.  You will lead the squad to deliver a set of capabilities to meet these ever-evolving requirements.

Engagement and presentation You will keep abreast of new trends and developments in technology and data. You will promote the use of data and the need for data technologies, training, processes, and people as a key part of our strategic development. You will present the data strategy and Data Product Roadmap to the organisation to garner support and excitement about the new capabilities we are engineering.

About You:

You are curious and innovative, and enjoy understanding other peoples' needs and how these translate into real-world solutions.  You are not afraid to ask challenging questions and you are adept at inspiring a team through strong thought leadership.  You are outgoing and can generate excitement for the things you are passionate about.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of Data technologies and eco-systems.
  • Commercial experience working with stakeholders to gather objectives and requirements.
  • Proficient in Agile ways of working or experience as a Product Owner (certifications are advantageous).
  • Adept at painting a roadmap and getting people inspired to deliver.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in a Data related field.
  • Minimum of a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences and a desire to work within a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Experience in leveraging Cloud technologies, such as AWS Sagemaker or Azure ML Services, is advantageous.
  • Experience in Agile ways of working is advantageous.

Additional Information:

In this role, you will work closely with our Data Engineers and Analysts and report to the Head of Data Science.

We’re a big believer in personal development and preparing you for success in this role as well as your next. We’ll provide a range of on-the-job training as well as other opportunities to learn all the key skills you’ll need.

Due to Covid, the whole Admiral Financial Services is working remotely. We will provide you with everything you need to work comfortably from home. We expect you to be working remotely for the foreseeable future, however, once it is safe to return to the office, we will have days when the whole team comes together to collaborate. You can decide if you want to come to the office between 2-5 days per week.

At Admiral, we are proud to be a diverse business where we put our people and customers first. We have great benefits to ensure employees have a great work-life balance; it's one of the reasons we're voted no. 1 in the 2019 Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK.
