Our Content Design team is growing. We’re looking for an experienced Content Designer to contribute to the creation and development of our design system.

The design system is a new endeavour for us and we’re building a team to help improve the quality and consistency of our digital estate.

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in an exciting and transformative project from the start, where you’ll be bringing a content perspective to a team of researchers, designers, developers and product managers from across the business.

As a content designer within the design system team you will:

  • help define and promote organisational content standards 
  • write clear, concise usage guidance for a variety of users across the business 
  • lead the co-creation of the governance, processes and principles needed to manage content within the design system 
  • collaborate with your team and others to assure and document content design standards 
  • conduct regular reviews with teams to simplify, consolidate, and challenge content patterns 
  • evaluate the quality, consistency and usefulness of content guidance with users 
  • provide content pattern usage training and content support for the business
  • proactively communicate changes and updates to colleagues across the business 
  • present complex information and concepts to colleagues in a clear and articulate manner 
  • work with the Lead Content Designer and the User Centred Design practice to promote and shape Content Design at HL 

About you:

  • excel at writing and communicating in plain English 
  • can confidently create concise content across a variety of formats 
  • have experience creating content patterns, templates and components, with excellent attention to detail 
  • have experience working closely and collaboratively with UX and UI designers 
  • have experience of using user research and analytics data to plan and make content decisions 
  • have excellent knowledge of web content accessibility guidelines  
  • can confidently co-create prototypes and other content and design artefacts 
  • are an open, confident and considered communicator and collaborator 
  • can confidently apply a user-centred approach and explain content decisions to non-experts at all levels 

Not essential, but we would like to see:

  • created training or instructive content, such as technical manuals, regulatory guidance, or style guidelines 
  • experience working within a regulated environment, with compliance, legal and technical experts 
  • experience working in a multi-disciplinary team 
  • experience using a Headless CMS and Adobe Analytics (or similar) 
  • experience of working in an agile environment
