Deliver a global campaign for a million-pound engineering prize

Communications Officer - QEPrize

Up to £29,000 pa + Benefits

From robotic hands that connect to the nerves in the user’s arm to interstellar adventures, engineering has the ability to challenge boundaries and deliver global human benefits. The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering celebrates the engineers who make these advances possible and, by raising the public profile of engineering, inspires young people to consider engineering as a career and to become part of the next generation of high achievers.

Since its inception in 2011 the QEPrize has firmly established itself as the world’s leading award for engineers and engineering. News of our activities during the 2017 QEPrize cycle reached an unprecedented 2 billion people across the globe. To support us in our work, we need an exceptional Communications Officer who can continue to raise our profile via a coordinated international communications campaign.

You’ll manage the structure and content of the QEPrize website, commissioning and evaluating submissions from external contributors as well as writing attention-grabbing articles yourself. You will work closely with the Digital Communications Officer to push engaging content across channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. You’ll be comfortable and confident managing press relations and evaluation, liaising with the national and international media and executing communications projects in association with our PR agency and the Communications Team at your base in the Royal Academy of Engineering.

A graduate with at least a years’ experience in communications, you’ll bring a solid background in project management and strong commercial acumen. Creative, versatile and resourceful, you’ll have no problem tailoring complex information to varying international contexts and individual audiences. Your brand awareness will be matched by your understanding of the issues and challenges facing engineering and STEM, particularly in relation to diversity. The experience of engaging with the public in the science and engineering sector, particularly with younger audiences, would be a distinct advantage.

Closing date: Midday on Thursday, 15th February 2018.

First interview date: Tuesday, 27th February 2018.
