Your role:

This multidisciplinary communications executive role has a broad remit, working across News UK’s communications team. It is a brilliant opportunity for someone in the early stages of a communications career looking to take the next step, offering experience across all aspects of communications, and an inside view of the media.

Your team:

News UK runs a busy and effective communications function, covering corporate comms, B2B trade PR, internal communications and events, and consumer PR for our broadcast brands, across one of the most well known and fast-evolving media businesses in the UK.

You will report into the Senior Communications Manager, and work closely with the Communications Manager, Communications Director, as well as other stakeholders across the business, including Heads of Communications for The Times and The Sunday Times, and The Sun, publicists for our broadcast brands, designers, journalists, HR and more.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead our daily and crisis media monitoring, compiling daily media coverage reports, tracking and reporting on crisis issues, and managing our media monitoring provider.
  • Deliver engaging content for our owned channels, including our website, intranet and social media. You will regularly write in a range of styles, manage and deliver internal newsletters, campaigns and events.
  • Manage the creation of creative assets including print and digital, video and photography.
  • Assist with pitching stories to B2B and consumer media, researching media targets and opportunities for campaigns and announcements, drafting press releases and reporting on progress.
  • Share industry best practices and keep up to date with the media industry landscape.

What we’re looking for from you:

We’re looking for someone who is talented, hardworking and proactive, hungry to fast-track their next career step by supporting a busy in-house communications team. The ideal candidate will have already spent 12-18 months in a corporate, internal or consumer communications setting, in an agency or in-house - as well as have a passion for current affairs and the news industry.

  • Strong communications experience of 1-2 years within agency or relevant communication field, ideally across a mix of corporate, internal or consumer comms.
  • Confidence in writing abilities – experience in writing press releases, copy and reports efficiently and thoughtfully.
  • Superb attention to detail and the ability to spot problems and proactively resolve them.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to respond to tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple different workstreams, with differing requirements and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the daily news agenda and passion for current affairs and the news industry.
  • Enthusiastic, organised, proactive, a hard worker and keen to learn new things.

We are News: Our iconic newsbrands include The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, The Sun on Sunday and The TLS. Our broadcasting business comprises national stations talkSPORT, Times Radio, and Virgin Radio - home to the Chris Evans Breakfast Show and Graham Norton at the weekend – as well as market-leading local stations across Ireland. TalkTV is our major new TV channel, delivering a schedule of news, current affairs, entertainment and sport, with Piers Morgan in a primetime evening show.
