As an Associate Producer, you will work closely with the executive editor, executive producer, senior producers, producers, and producer/editors at the Engel Unit. You will help find, report, and cover major stories around the world, including breaking news coverage. You will be required to generate story ideas as part of this news coverage and for long form projects, and to pitch with a multi-platform approach to ensure that the content can be used across all NBC News platforms. Working from the Engel Unit’s London office based in West London you will also, on occasion, travel to some of the most remote and difficult places in the world to join the field team in reporting stories.

As a member of the unit, you will be expected to collaborate with and support the work of all members of the team, often managing multiple research, editing, and logistical tasks while working to make every single story the unit produces better. Under the supervision of producers and senior producers, you will contribute to the unit’s output across all NBC News platforms, including On Assignment with Richard Engel.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the production process including research, video acquisition and clearance, graphics oversight, field production, and crew supervision.
    • Support and have a crucial role in the editing process.
    • Work closely with the Executive Editor, Executive Producer, senior producers, and producers. 
    • Provide editorial, logistical, and administrative support to the teams in the field. 
    • Assist in coordination and cooperation with all parts of the NBC News organization and help ensure that the unit is quick to respond to news stories and quick to deploy. 
    • Occasionally and if the need arises you will be required to travel out into the field, often at short notice, to chase stories all over the world.
    • You will play a leading role in all aspects of social media relating to On Assignment with Richard Engel and general news coverage involving Richard Engel. Must be able to create copy and original content.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have significant newsroom experience, preferably at a US broadcast network.
  • Previous experience working on long form content is preferred
  • Must be very familiar with the demands and schedules of network news, cable news and online platforms and be able to correctly prioritize and manage the demands on the unit’s resources. 
  • Must be able edit on an Avid desktop. Preferably applicants would have experience in the use of video cameras and a DSLR.
  • Must be proficient regarding social media platforms for both reporting and aggregation
  • Must work well within a team that deals with fast-paced and unpredictable coverage. 
  • Must be able to embrace the changing assignments and be flexible when necessary. Must be able to multi-task.
  • Must be a strong communication and self-starter.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant working experience.


    • Must be willing and able to travel when required.
    • Must be willing work to work long hours and flexible hours under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
    • Must be able to work or travel when news breaks, regardless of any pre-planned schedules.
    • Must be willing to live and work in West London.
    • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
