JOB OVERVIEW:

The Associate Creative Director, Social and Paid Media will be responsible to bring to life our content strategy, specifically to feed our social and paid media channels, but also to complement our email and site asset lineup. This individual should have a high taste level and a portfolio demonstrating expertise in fashion and lifestyle content. Strong conceptual thinking, photo and video art direction, design and animation skills and social media best practices are a must. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, creative and seasoned in content strategy within a fashion/retail environment. The Associate Creative Director, Social and Paid Media will oversee the day-to-day concepting and be very hands on in the execution of photography, video and designed comps, ensuring that our brand personality and standards are met. Understanding and contributing new strategies, tools and workflows will be expected. Advocating for the development of new tactics and technologies, communicating best practices and learnings across the organization and collaborating cross-functionally will be essential for success in this role. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Creative/Editorial Concepting, Planning & Executio:

  • Work with agency and internal teams (e.g. Creative, Events, Integrated Marketing, Stores) to develop the monthly editorial calendar that captures not only what is happening at Bloomingdale’s, but also that which is top of mind for our customers.

  • Plans for of-the-moment spontaneity to inject Bloomingdale’s into trending conversations.

  • Develops editorial and visual ideas around all above initiatives, keeping in mind the multiple channels we feed.

  • Attends style-outs and ensures merchandise and outfits pulled not only support the concepts but our larger brand positioning.

  • Plans talent and shoots with internal producer.

  • Art directs on set to bring concepts to fruition with on-brand, impactful output. Ensures we are capturing imagery in a way that supports multiple channels (e.g. long form video for YouTube and IGTV, still images for Instagram and emails, and short form animation for IGS, as well as different aspect ratios for paid media programs).

  • Edits shoots (photography and video) to finalize selects, crops and retouching notes.

  • Works with copy to secure headlines, captions and any verbiage necessary.

  • Directs or implements design.

  • Executes evergreen paid media branding buys.

  • Presents to SVP for approval, making any adjustments necessary.

  • Works with Managing Editor to ensure accurate publishing and to streamline processes.

  • Partners with ACD counterparts, Design, Copy, Photography and Marketing Services Senior Leaders to build social support around company-wide seasonal campaigns, launches, stores openings, or vendor/influencer collaborations.

  • Generates concepts for pitch decks.

  • Collaborates to see which assets can be re-purposed. Makes additional selects or re-edits for purposes of organic and paid media.

  • Plans and executes any original concepts that fall outside the campaign team’s planned shoot.

  • Stays abreast of industry trends and presents opportunities for innovation to the SVP, Creative.
     

Community Engagement & Listening:

  • Manages Community Editor to ensure that we are responding to and promoting brand love in a timely, brand-right manner.

  • Trains customers to engage with us by rewarding desired behavior.

  • Engages with vendors, influencers, companies we follow.

  • Ensures Bloomingdale’s is a consistently active participant in the community.

  • Finds opportunities to utilize UGC.

  • Partners with Omni-channel Customer Experience group to address customer complaints and provide best-in-class service.

  • Works with Copy to hone voice for social channels.

  • Interprets data and community signals to know what stories are the right fit for what channel and audience.

  • Ensures listening insights and intelligence are shared with the organization.
     

Measurement:

  • Works with agency partners, analytics team and paid media to analyze media performance. Share insights for daily, monthly and quarterly reporting.

  • Test, learn and optimize new approaches.

  • Owns the editorial execution of reports and presentations.
     

Management:

  • Works closely with agency partners to ensure quality and brand-appropriateness.

  • Oversees a team of two: Community Editor and Designer.

  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality. 
     

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Concentration in Design or Photography desired.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in content creation, phot/video/design art direction.

  • 2+ years social media experience, with both strategic and creative skills.

  • A proven track record of developing high-value, sharable content.
     

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Highly skilled in fostering a collaborative work environment and building meaningful relationships.

  • Strong leadership and team oversight abilities.
     

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to read and interpret business reports.
     

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to manage projects and prioritize next steps with diverse peer and senior teams.

  • Develop and execute plans and strategies quickly, capitalizing on momentum and incremental progress.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage conflict.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with the authority and experience to engage effectively at all levels.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking. 

  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching. 

  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.  

  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. 

  • May involve moving or lifting items under 20 pounds.
     

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Expertise utilizing Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. Fluency in After Effects and Premiere desired.

  • Strong aptitude in anticipating and following production processes and timelines.
     

WORK HOURS:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
