While survival rates for some types of leukemia have improved dramatically, this family of blood cancers remains a potentially fatal disease. Research in epigenetics, immunotherapy, and cell transplants offers hope. And leukemia is proving a testing ground for the theory of cancer stem cells — leading to knowledge that could advance cancer research overall.

Working with Nature Publishing, James helped to create a hybrid 2D and 3D medical animation video that looks inside the broken machinery to see what goes awry in the main forms of this cancer – a disease that is becoming less lethal thanks to the development of precisely targeted drugs.
