ABOUT

As part of my Honours Project, I set up my own brief. This consisted in illustrating ‘The Parable of the Farmer & the Ghost’, a story that has mindfulness as the underlying theme. The story originates from India and as far as I know, it has not been written or illustrated before. I believe it has been passed on through an oral story telling tradition. I first came across it in a mindfulness meditation class. Since the story is set in India, I took inspiration from its heritage, buzzing markets and colours to create my designs.

I illustrated the picture book with the written story as well as a series of textile’s panels that illustrate the parable. The fabric panels showcase the story in its entirety as well as specific sections of the story.
The story is for both children and adults and has mindfulness as its underlying theme. Children can invent their own stories based on the illustrations, or follow the story on the book whilst playing with the fabrics. The book, used together with the fabrics can be an helpful tool for parents to interact with the children too.
