ABOUT

As part of the Migration Rhythms series by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), this segment—produced by PositiveNegatives—captures the aspirations, struggles, and triumphs of individuals migrating to Mumbai in search of education, work, and love. The animation showcases how the quest for opportunity fuels social mobility and shapes lives across generations.

Set against Mumbai’s vibrant, fast-paced landscape, the animation reflects the city’s energy and cultural evolution. Jarbrain worked with illustrator Mia Jose, refining artwork and rigging characters for fluid movement. Despite limited building assets, we layered bushes, trees, and urban elements to construct an immersive street-level motorbike scene, creatively recycling assets to enhance depth.

To further capture Mumbai’s dynamism, subtle environmental details were animated—birds flapping in the distance, hair flowing with the wind—bringing the city to life. With sound design by Richard Hughes and research-driven storytelling, the animation delivers an authentic, engaging experience.
