ABOUT
Last November I was approached by Katie Ringer at Forta Productions to work on something very special - a projection-mapping piece for their Managing Director's wedding!
I was honoured to be tasked with something so personal, the brief consisted of 3 parts, 2 'holding state' loops and a one-off narrative piece which all the guests would see together.
The first holding state was to be 2 stars with trails that floated around the building, essentially all that was asked for was that it would be interesting without being distracting.
I took this a little further and saw the 2 stars as being the 2 newly-weds (or about-to-be's at this point in the evening I think!) and make them dance together around the building.
So I set them to sway in opposite motions using seperate sine waves on the X, Y and Z axes, and then slowly orbited the camera around the centre point to create a undulating variation on the resulting patterns. In the middle, where the two lovers are closest to each other, there is an slow-mo firework style pulse outwards.
The second holding-state was for after the main event, during the cocktail reception. It was to reimagine the existing building as winter wonderland style Grotto.
The main brief was for a narrative paper cut-out style piece that starts with a move from Autumn to Winter, and takes the viewer through a winter forest. I took the paper cutout idea and ran away with it. I envisaged a 'theatre' of intricate cutout layers of tree-topped landscapes which themselves animate into the scene. The main focus here was to make something beautiful.
