This project aimed to explore society’s relationship to death in this country; how death is perceived and how it is dealt with. By exploring traditions from multiple countries and cultures, the concept of ‘Reversing Tradition’ came to the fore. Death is a certainty, but it does not need to be ignored, pushed underground. The design attempted to recognise, re-evaluate and redesign ritual by bringing the death process of Promession above ground. While the spaces for the living were to be hidden underground.

The storage of urns in the enveloping structure would create this living monument that would change and grow over time. It would live with death.
