James Sampson Creative Director

ABOUT

This show was my first experience with farce. My main objective as an actor, agreed between the director and I, was to have as much fun and to play as much as possible. This kind of broad directive was challenging at first because I had never really explored the upper limits of how much energy I needed to bring to a piece. It wasn't my first comedy, however, timing became vital in order to keep the scene momentum going in order to reap the humour.

Gomez, whom I chose to be an extreme optimist based on my dad's recollection of the original show and comic, had to be of illustrated proportions as the concept involved comic-esque set and costume design. This pushed me to Jim Carrey levels of facial movement for the role, which required heavy stretching and warm-up.
