I was really excited to work with Frontiers, a leading open access publisher and open science platform, to bring their new brand to life through a series of character driven illustrations that depicted the key elements of their platform.

The chosen creative route focussed on a figure, representing curiosity, navigating the world of science. In this world, scale is used to both represent the wonders of science, and reference that a lot of scientific study relies on looking at very big, or very small, things.

It’s a playful and engaging approach with a fun narrative thread that really celebrates the joys of science, as our character embarks on their adventures!

Below are some intial concepts for each illustration, a few character variations we explored, and the final artwork. This was such an enjoyable project, and certainly one of my favourite pieces of work from 2021.
