My name is James Dewar

I am really keen to get into advertising and I was wondering if I could get some advice from yourself. Please have a look through my linked in profile and make any suggestion as to what I should change.

I am willing to start at the very bottom (even if it is a case of make tea and coffee for the runners)

I have always enjoyed watching adverts and wondering how someone came with that particular idea. My favourite advert is the Honda Cog advert and that is what made me want to get into it.

I have gained experienced within sales to consumers (in luxury goods) and the sales and lettings of both commercial and residential buildings. I believe the skills I have learnt from selling on a one to one basis, gives me a could start in the line of advertising as I have had the opportunity to see what the consumer wants directly from them.

I have always had the gift of the gab which has enabled be to do well within sales roles, this has become most clear on two occasions:

1. I was working in a luxury suit shop when a customer came in looking for a tie, but I sent them home with a new suit, shoes, shirts and the important tie.

2. Whilst temping for Parker pens in St Pancras station I managed to sell 30 pens at £135,00 to station users who didn't come to the station expecting to buy a pen let alone a £135.00 one.

I would like to be able to transfer these skills to the world of advertising and accomplish my dream of seeing an advert I had some part in on the television and sitting back and saying "WOW! I did that, that was me and the team." I would treat my first one just like the opening night of a big blockbuster film, having family and friends around me to all be part of the moment when I can finally say, that's it I have made it.
