ABOUT

A few weeks ago I was asked to design a logo and business card for a new carpentry business called “Boatman Works & Woodcraft.” Because this was my first freelancing brief since leaving Chester everything felt a bit odd at first, but quickly it all came back to me and I got myself up to speed again. For the logo I didn’t have much freedom to do what I wanted because my client already had a sketch that they really liked; I digitised the sketch in Adobe Illustrator and picked a typeface that suited both the logo and the contact details on the business card. The reason that there is a canal boat in the logo is because the client lives on a boat, and their business involves canal boats. For the business card I decided to separate the logo and the contact details onto 2 sides of a card; this was so the logo stood out on its own, and the contact details weren’t too small and crowded together. I like the final logo because it looks traditional and it suits the business well.
