This is my Honours Degree project, which i got awarded 1st class honours.

This project is an abstract moving image work that is a visual journey designed from handmade textured elements. These elements are combined with digital post-production processes to create a hybrid analogue and digital film. The objective of this methodology is to retain the “fingerprints” of the artist in the final moving image compositions, in order to retain a “humanistic” quality in the final work.

The methodology draws upon intensive practice based methods which have been adapted from the investigations into the work of various experimental filmmakers such as Norman McLaren, Len Lye, Stan Brakhage, Thorsten Fleisch and Malcolm Le Grice. It examines ways to apply analogue production techniques found in visual art practices, such as painting, illustration and collage to evoke emotion despite not being framed within a traditional, digital moving image narrative framework.

This paper examines the methodological approaches, methods and processes utilized in the making of this project as well as the experimentation and technical aspects of this film.
