ABOUT
Identity is an extremely important topic that is often a focus point in art and illustration. The concept of identity, particularly unseen identities, has strongly influenced the creative direction that I wish to take in my work.
This self driven project is focused around my activism in the area of struggling minorities, specifically those who suffer or have suffered from addiction. The central theme of this project is ‘hidden stories’.I have created a project that combines my skills at illustration with my passion and emotional connection to the people of a charity named Betel. To contextualize, Betel is a non-for-profit organization that helps to support recovering addicts and get them back into society and employment. Many of Betel’s residents work in a cafe in Lincoln called The Rising Café. This café is the central focus and inspiration for my work, as I have drawn portraits of these amazing people. It is my aim to raise awareness of the strength and courage that recovering addicts show, and to break the stigma that still surrounds addiction. My work is a collection of these illustrations, portrayed as a final collage. The next stage is to publish a book which is viewable on my portfolio.
