ABOUT

From 2005–2007 I edited and designed over 200 sheets in the COSHH essentials library. Since August 2015 I've been editing the updated versions.

COSHH Essentials sets out basic advice on what to do to control exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace in the form of straightforward advice in ‘factsheets’ called ‘control guidance sheets’. There are two types of sheets, industry-specific ‘direct advice sheets’ and ‘generic control guidance sheets’. The sheets are aimed at a target audience of managers and workers and are often referred to by OHS consultants and inspectors when giving advice.
The work involves working alongside Policy colleagues and industry experts to make sure the text is factually correct and that all the changes to the technical guidance have been incorporated. HSE’s house style has recently been updated to reflect GOV.UK’s style guide, including use of capitals and plain English.

Copy supplied by technical authors is edited in tracked changes in Word, approved for accuracy before going to design and proofed in ready-to-publish PDF format, including metadata and landing page information. Over 100 sheets are now edited, designed and ready to publish online, with another 120 edited and ready to be designed.

Other fact sheets edited during this contract include:
The medical examination and assessment of commercial divers (MA1)
Reducing risk in temporary traffic management operations (CIS53)
A series of Engineering information sheets (EIS2, 7, etc)
