JENNIFER HANDORF began her film career at Columbia University, where she was presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the prestigious Student Academy Award for work as a producer on POP FOUL. After receiving her BA in Film (as well as a BA in Pyschology), Jennifer stayed in New York and continued producing thesis films for MA candidates at NYU and Columbia. Jennifer then moved to Los Angeles where she received her Master's Degree from USC's Peter Stark Program while working at Fox's International Production devision. There, Jennifer directed several short films on the topic of female identity which gained her high academic standing.
Following graduation, Jennifer moved to London where she produced over a dozen features films which have been distributed internationally and programmed at over 100 festivals world wide, including the Sundance Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival, with many of her films taking top prizes. Her first feature, THE DEVIL'S BUSINESS, was described by critics as Pinter-esque and praised for its art house qualities as much as for its scares, Her follow up film, The Borderlands, was met with critical and commercial success. She continues bringing high concept story driven productions to the British screen with the long anticipate directorial debut of Alice Lowe, Prevenge, which follows a pregnant woman who believes her unborn child is forcing her to commit murders and Native, a raw dystopian science fiction. Jennifer has also made several more commercially focused projects made directly for the US Television market, including the remake of Disney's Watcher In The Woods, starring Anjelica Huston, and A Working Moms Worst Nightmare, featuring Tuppence Middleton and Rupert Graves and based on the best selling novel The Lie Of You, for which Jennifer wrote the screenplay.
While independent producers are known to wear many hats, Jennifer's additional credit's as a writer and second unit director demonstrate just how much of a creative presence Jennifer has been on these projects. And while Jennifer has very much established herself as a creative Producer, she has steadily been making a shift into writing/directing and is extremely pleased to be directing her debut feature THE CHANGE in early 2022. As well as receiving early development support from the BFI, the project has already been featured in the Karlskrona edition of The Frontieres Development program and will be part of the program's exclusive features presentation at the Cannes market in 2020.
When not making films, Jennifer spends her time supporting the filmmaking community. Not only has she taught at several Universities, including six years as staff at Norwich University of the Arts, but she has also presented several educational events for groups like Directors UK, Spotlight, Soho House, and the BFI. She has mentored filmmakers through the BFI and Channel 4, and she has acted as a jury member for international programs such as the Lund Film Festival and BAFTA CYMRU.
