The recent increase in home office jobs has taken society into a form of depression and the distance between people and nature has never been greater. This provided the inspiration for PALERMO - a next generation electric off-road vehicle, meant to bridge the gap between urban professional life and nature, in a modern society defined by isolation and social stagnation. Aesthetically, the design draws inspiration from vintage Italian sports cars. Visually, a contrast was sought after between the soft shapes and the sturdy nature of a heavy off-road vehicle. A multipurpose design that covers all bases without compromising core functionalities or comfort, supported by practical segmentation of the interior, functional exterior surfaces, and advanced electronic utility. The vehicle is designed as a game changer for the contemporary individual, as it enables the two main aspects of their life.
Palermo also fuses the functionality of a large off-road vehicle with the feel of a home office environment. The seats are adjustable, according to individual ergonomic preferences and configurations. It also offers multi-purpose interactive elements, such as a detaching table, additional storage areas and a small container for personal possessions. All elements are designed to seamlessly inhabit the internal space and merge utility with comfort. The material selection for the vehicle is environmentally and safety conscious and takes ease of maintenance into consideration. For the doors and windshield, Palermo utilizes material that changes its structure, appearing transparent. The seats are designed with separate detachable elements that can be replaced due to amortization or aesthetic preferences.
A physical model has been developed to showcase the design on a 1:5 scale. Individual pieces have been printed with resin material, which have been crafted and assembled manually, and then completed with a precision paint job.
